Start your Budapest tour with a trip to the Great Market Hall before visiting the Buda (hilly) and the Pest (flat) sides of the river.

View Heroes' Square and Castle Hill, the home to the Fisherman's Bastion and Mattias Church. Or, you can hike up to Castle Hill for breathtaking views of the city below. (Meals: B,L,D)

DAY 3 Bratislava

During a walking tour, you'll learn why Bratislava is called the "Coronation City of Kings." Between 1536 and 1830, this city hosted the crowning ceremonies of 11 Hungarian kings and queens. Or, you could opt for a "Tastes of Slovakia" tour.

If you prefer more action, hike up to Bratislava Castle, which offers magnificent views of the city. (Meals: B,L,D)

DAY 4 Vienna

DAY 5 Weissenkirchen

After reaching Weissenkirchen, you can take your pick of excursions. Walk to Dürnstein and ]the UNESCO-designated Melk Abbey. Or, for those who prefer the grape, walk to a wine-tasting and sample apricot treats from a local boutique.

You can stretch your legs while hiking to the fortress where they imprisoned Richard the Lionheart or join a guided bike tour to Melk. Later in the day, you can sail through the Strudengau Valley to medieval Grein to visit Greinburg Castle, which is more than 500 years old. While here, attend a folklore show and wine reception. DAY 6 Linz

Once you arrive at Linz, you'll have several choices for excursions. Opt for a full day in Salzburg to tour the historic center, Mirabell Gardens, Residenz Square, and the Old Market. On the way to Salzburg, stop at Mondsee to see the Basilica St. Michael. For a morning of walking, visit the old city center of Linz, see the Mozart House, or go on a bike tour of the city's famed "Cultural Mile" and the Danube. Then, in the afternoon, visit the charming Český Krumlov, located just over the Czech-Austrian border. (Meals: B,L,D)

DAY 7 Passau

DAY 8 Vilshofen
